About Us

www.waiyouth.net.nz is all about the efforts of North Canterbury youth culminating in the formation of the Blue Roo Crew.

Thanks to all the people who in some way helped to make this website happen, especially Chris Willocks, Chantall Alberts and Brydon Nimmo!  Other young people joined us for meetings and  taken part in the logo competition and design work!  More of you  took part in Snap That (phew! That happened a long time ago!), our youth health forums and the Rangatahi Parliament.

Of course we can’t ever forget the efforts of the fantastic Shelley Robinson and Madeleine Burdon, along with the Community Development Team at the Waimakariri District Council, without all of whom, we would be in serious trouble! So it’s thanks to them for their tireless thoughts and assistance and a constant belief in youth that we never thought was possible in the adult world.

Cheers Guys!

WaiYouth and the Blue Roo Crew were established after a small committee of Youth and supportive adults (those listed above) decided that it was time to tell the people in the fancy suits what the needs of Youth in the district were. We thought it would be a good idea if we could create a positive relationship with the Waimakariri District Council as previously such a relationship was relatively non existent and that Youth in the public eye is usually cast in a negative light, so we thought it was time to change that.

We may still have far to go – but since the key players of our groups first meet each other in 2007, we have come further than ever before!
