Your doctor

Remember: youthworkers, school counsellors, counsellors are all really good at supporting you through all of this. They can make phone calls and all the other stuff.

Eating disorders and body image

This can be a scary one to tackle – but you are not alone

Couple of things you can do:

Eating Awareness Team

What : Support service, friendly and onto it!
Who : Rachel
Where : Caretakers Cottage, 325 Montreal Street, Christchurch – just jump on the bus, or catch a lift with someone – it’s totally worth it.
Cost : Freebie
How : You can simply drop in Mon and Thurs 9am-2pm or Tues and Wednesday 9am – 12pm.
PLEASE - if you feel any concern AT ALL and want to talk to someone - contact the Eating Awareness Team right now on: 03 366 7725 or 0800 690 233
Check them out on: thepulse.org.nz it’s really good at explaining things.

Also, go to your doctor – or any doctor because they know the go and how to help.

The health system is kinda funny but what you need to know is that they can put through a bit of paper to ‘Eating Disorder Service’ at Princess Margaret Hospital if they reckon you need a bit more support. Sometimes there can be a bit of a waiting list so that’s why it is important to hook up with someone like the Eating Awareness Team, a counsellor, youth worker or public health nurse. Ask your doctor about more support options.

Sexual health visits are free for youth up to 20 years - check with your doctor. They have to be members of the Rural Canterbury PHO
